Avast Behind!

Avast Behind!

12th December - 19th December 2009

Avast Behind! - or the true story of what happened at Treasure Island - has been written by Vicky Orman and Katy Biggs, with a little help from Mark O'Callaghan and is directed by Chris Britton. There are many, many pirates both male and female with a strong likelihood that the villain will also be female - Long Joan Silver - who will have to perform with an obligatory wooden leg, hook, and talking parrot! This will be the first panto with a 'flash back' to when the pirates were at pirate school and will involve the junior chorus in substantial dialogue. There will also be a very posh version of The Haka using local street names - and a man-eating shark that will eat the audience as well as the cast! The whole stage, including the apron, will be used and the band (also dressed as pirates) will play on stage. Anyone of any age, height or gender, or with a big bum will be welcomed.

Tess of the d'Urburvilles

Tess of the d'Urburvilles

26th May - 26th May 2009

By Thomas Hardy. Adapted for the stage by Michael Fry. A Bristol Old Vic Theatre School touring production. Against the measured, idyllic background of the Dorset landscape, Hardy's most popular story unwinds with the inevitability of a Greek tragedy. Tess has the most enviable qualities of Woman- intelligence, sensitivity, independance of mind, integrity, compassion- but against a rigid class system and a ckoking social system which places respectability higher than morallity these these qualities are to little avail. The Bristol Old Vic Theatre School students bring to this production their usual virbant energy and sparkling young talent, cocooning Hardy's tale in a framework of song and music- the perfect enterainment for a summer's evening in the West Country.

Sleeping Beauty

13th December - 20th December 2008

Hove, 1971 In the family home (and private practice) of Dr. Wickstead, the household members are dissatisfied and frustrated - with life, with each other and mostly with the sate of their own bodies. As the doctor's flat chested sister Connie orders a contraption to turn the men's heads, emotions run high, and long-hidden desires are exposed (as are a few other things). Meanwhile, the arrival of several visitors in town can only add to the confusion... As the family's haughty self-assurance gives way to absurd indignity, the only cool head is that of housekeeper Mrs. Swabb, hoovering the audience along through the dirty mayhem. Amidst all this, will anyone have time for the desperately forlorn Mr. Pudue? Well, he's only a National Health patient after all...
