Into the Woods
Definitely a long way from pantomime the show blends various familiar fairy tales with an original cautionary story of a childless Baker and his Wife who attempt to reverse a curse on their family in order to have a child. The audience are introduced to the well known characters of their own childhood; Cinderella, Red Riding Hood, the Ugly Sisters, Jack, Rapunzel, the two dashing princes and the Big Bad Wolf and the Witch and then have to evaluate the intertwining stories through adult eyes. What type of relationship can you have meeting someone for one night? What effect does being locked in a tower for years do to someone? If you chop down a beanstalk and kill a giant, you end up with a giant corpse to deal with. The happy ever after is much more complex, and there are consequences to all actions. All this to the catchy complex harmonies and music of Sondheim! A unique, witty, entertaining show with great music .
